The international attention attracted by the symposium signaled that there is substantial interest among members of the scholarly community, within Uppsala Forum, as well as the larger public, in the topic of poetry and political resistance in Eastern Europe.\nThis event will conclude with the planning of a publication (collection of articles or journal issue) on the theme of the symposium.\nSeveral invited researchers have published widely in the field of artistic and aesthetic dissent, underground literature, samizdat, civil self-organization and political activism. Some of the invited participants have themselves participated in underground publications and dissident activities. Their first-hand testimonies will provide a vital real-life dimension to the scholarly discussions.\n
